Jake Cronenworth Reacts to Unlucky Play That Cost Padres In Loss to Dodgers
Nobody around the San Diego Padres feels worse right now than infielder Jake Cronenworth. In the team's opening game against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers, Cronenworth missed a routine ground ball that would have likely ended the inning.
But that's not the whole story.
Bad luck struck the Padres, as the ball went straight through his glove and into right field. Literally through his glove.
The Dodgers took a 3-2 lead on that play, and tacked on to more runs on the next two batters to take the 5-2 lead — the score in which they won.
After the game, Cronenworth spoke about the play.
“I thought it was an easy double play,” Cronenworth said. “I caught it on the first bounce. That’s the way it goes. … Sucks. I don’t know what else to say.”

It was an unfortunate play for the Padres and Cronenworth, especially to start their season off. San Diego may have won the game if he made the play, as they kept the Dodgers offense relatively quiet for most of the matchup.
“It went through my glove,” Cronenworth said. “It is what it is. It could have gone through in between innings. It could have gone through in innings before that. It just happened in that situation, and it sucks.”

The Padres will be looking to put the unlucky moment in the rear-view mirror, as they have another game to play against Los Angeles.
Starting pitcher Joe Musgrove will be taking the mound for the Padres in Game 2, eagerly waiting for this moment to kick off the year on a high note for himself.
