Josh Hader Details Feelings After Being Traded from Successful Brewers Team to Padres
The Padres made a big splash before last season's MLB trade deadline. The sweepstakes for Juan Soto were fast and furious, and luckily for your Frairs, they were able to snag the 24-year-old superstar. Before the Padres acquired Soto, San Diego traded for Josh Hader, one of the best closers in the last couple of years.
San Diego pulled the trigger the day before acquiring Soto, a massive plus for the Padres. Hader was a member of the Milwaukee Brewers, where he spent five and a half seasons before being traded last summer.
Today will be the first time Josh will face his former team since being traded, and he told 97.3 The Fan there are no hard feelings, and it's all business.
"It's another game. I get to see a bunch of friends. People I've come to grow big relationships with, at the end of the day, in between the lines, it's just another game. Gotta do the job."
Hader established himself as one of the best closer in the game in five and a half seasons with the Brew Crew. The four-time All-Star had 125 saves in 143 opportunities and holds MLB records with the most consecutive outs via strikeouts (16), most consecutive hitless appearances (12), fastest player to reach 400 strikeouts, and most consecutive saves to start a season (18 in 2022).
The 29-year-old was dominant with the Brewers and looks just as good with the Padres. He got off to a slow start in his Padre tenure but hit a stride toward the end of the regular season and into the playoffs.
Thus far, he's pitched in five games, has four saves already, and has a 1.80 ERA. If Hader keeps this up, he could earn his fifth all-star appearance, plus add another Trevor Hoffman award to his belt.
We're glad he's on our side now, and hopefully, he gets a chance to get another save against his old team.
