MLB Insider Flabbergasted with Fans Jumping Off of Padres' Bandwagon
The San Diego Padres came into the 2023 season with astronomical expectations. This team is loaded with talent at many positions but has yet to display that in their play.
Entering Friday, the Friars are one game under .500 at 13-14, landing them third in the NL West; they're only one and a half-game away from the top of the division. We have yet to hit a quarter of the season, but it seems people are falling off the Padres bandwagon.
The Atheltic MLB insider Jim Bowden isn't getting the people falling off the bandwagon and still believes in the Friars' chances of competing.
I can’t believe how many people have jumped off the Padres bandwagon. Really? After just a few weeks of games? Stop it. They will win their division and make a legit World Series run when it’s all said and done. The Padres are 12-13 and sit in third place in the NL West. But they’re basically playing .500 ball even though three of their best hitters have done next to nothing so far: Manny Machado is hitting .213 with one home run; Juan Soto is hitting .188; and Fernando Tatis Jr., after serving the rest of his suspension, is just 4-for-22 since returning. And they’re still just 1 1/2 games out. No team in baseball has a better four-player stack in its lineup than the Padres have with Tatis, Soto, Machado and Xander Bogaerts. Wait until they all start hitting. This team will go on some long winning streaks, just wait and see.
As Jets QB Aaron Rodgers once said, "R-E-L-A-X." The Padres will be fine, and their fans shouldn't worry about anything at all. Manny Machado and Juna Soto will find their stride soon, Blake Snell will pick it up sooner or later, and the rest of the guys will be fine.
The Padres need to cherish the regular season, as we've seen that bite them in the butt, and if they do, they'll be fine come October.
