The day is here, Padre fans, Opening Day! This will be San Diego Padres' 54th season in the MLB and the biggest season in their existence. San Diego’s front office did its job and assembled one of the best teams they could on the field. Now, it will be all up to the star players and manager Bob Melvin to execute and compete for the commissioner's trophy in 2023.

A lot is expected of the Frairs, and a lot will happen throughout the course of the season. The writers here at Inside The Padres came up with their best bold predictions of the 2023 season, and here is what they had to say.

Here’s my take…

The Padres will have the best team ERA, overtaking their division rivals Los Angeles Dodgers for that title. Last season, the Padres were outside the top 10 in team ERA at 11 with a 3.81 ERA. However, this season will be different for the Friars; they have their motivated Opening Day starter Blake Snell, a two-time WBC champion in Yu Darvish, and Joe Musgrove, who will be back better than ever from his injury. They also have one of the best closers in the game in Josh Hader, and a solid bullpen with Nick Martinez, Robert Suarez, Luis Garcia, and Nabil Crismatt. Beware of the arms out of the 619, MLB teams.

I think the Padres, despite having a depleted farm system and sky-high payroll, will still make a win-now move at this year’s trade deadline. They have some question marks in the bottom of their lineup and back of their rotation and have not been shy in making midseason moves to put them in position to win. This year will be no different — they’ll find a way to secure one or two good pieces at the deadline, to help them with their postseason push.

The Friars will look to capture their first title in their history, and this year is as good a year as any. They haven’t been to the World Series since 1998. Could this be the year they get there and finish the job?
