Padres Agree to 7-Year Extension with All-Star Infielder
Even though there hasn't been much good news in the past two days when it comes to the San Diego Padres, that all changed following their 4-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies.
Jake Cronenworth, infielder for the Friars, came to terms with the front office over the season on a one-year, $4 million deal to avoid arbitration. Nobody thought they would come to a bigger extension anytime soon, especially not this early in the season right?
Wrong, Dennis Lin of The Athletic was the first to report on a seven-year extension that Cronenworth signed with the Padres late Friday night. The exact amount he will be paid is currently unknown.
"NEWS: Jake Cronenworth and the Padres have agreed on a seven-year contract extension that will take the two-time All Star through his 36th birthday, sources tell

In 2022, the 29-year-old posted a slash line of .239/.332/.390 and also drove in 17 home runs with 88 RBI's. He recently moved from second base to first base and will look to prove his versatility on the squad.
Cronenworth has been with the Padres since 2020 and he was originally acquired through a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. He most notably connected on the game-winning hit in last year's playoffs that ended the Dodgers season. He has forged a legit role in the infield for himself with San Diego, been named an All-Star multiple times, and is now a confirmed part of their future.
Fans immediately took to Twitter to share their reactions to his newest contract.
