At this point, we just have to hope that the San Diego Padres have some sort of plan in place that does not involve just waiting for the hits to come. Time and time again, we have been subject to watching the same rough performances from guys that are supposed to be the best sluggers in the league.

And baseball karma is real... why would the video team at Petco Park take a victory lap after they win the first of six games that were going to be played between the Friars and Dodgers over the span of one week.

The type of confidence that they had to do that so early into their matchups should be the type of confidence that the team should be swinging with. Right now, the energy is nonexistent and outside of HSK, Tatis Jr, and Juan Soto, SD is lacking that usual spark and production that we saw last season.

And this series loss to LA is only the latest addition to the ever so growing list of disappointing ones in 2023. Sunday's final score of 0-4 put the Padres in some exclusive company and they now join a team at the bottom of a statistical spreadsheet they do not want to be a part of.

For the 18th time this year, San Diego scored less than three runs and tied the Oakland Athletics as the worst clubhouse in the MLB in that regard.

The San Diego-Union Tribune's Kevin Acee did an excellent job of explaining why these two teams certainly shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence due to the huge difference of dollar signs both franchises are defined by.

"That would be the A’s with the 9-32 record and the $60.7 million payroll that ranks last in the major leagues and is not quite a quarter the size of the Padres’ $246 million commitment this season. The A’s were shut out yesterday for the sixth time — once more than the Padres have been — with a starting nine that is scheduled to make a combined $16 million in 2023. Six of the A’s nine starters yesterday are making the major league minimum of $720,000."

Preseason expectations are usually unrealistic, especially some that were being placed on the Friars back in February but come on, this was out of the picture. Our guys are not bottom-feeders, let's make this a better week.
