Padres: Bob Melvin on Managing Expectations Over a Long Season
The San Diego Padres came off an extraordinary season in 2022. After finishing 22 games behind their division rivals LA Dodgers for the NL West crown, San Diego managed to beat LA in four games in the NLDS and reach the NLCS for the first time since 1998.
And even though they fell short the previous season, San Diego is primed to make a big splash in 2023. The Padres are a championship contender this upcoming season, and everyone knows that, including Padres skipper Bob Melvin who says he’s looking forward to managing those expectations in the clubhouse.
The Friars are looking to win their first NL West title since 2006, and they have a great chance to do so. San Diego has managed to put together the pieces to build one of the best lineups in all of baseball and must now put it all together on the field.
The Pads have been swinging for the fences for the past couple of seasons, and now is the time to win their first title in franchise history.
After decades of up-and-down eras, these past couple of seasons have put San Diego on a trajectory for long-term success. Media pundits and their fans are expecting San Diego to be one of the heavyweights in the majors. The city has been itching for a great sports team, and they finally have themselves one with a real shot at winning it all.
They’ll have many obstacles and hurdles to jump through, but if they can live up to the hype with their star players, the Friars could be the team to beat.
