The injury bug has bitten the Padres in a big way when it comes to the catcher's position. San Diego Padres insider Kevin Acee reported that catcher Luis Campusano could be out for at least eight weeks, having surgery on his left thumb.

Campusano has not played since April 14th and was placed on the 10-day IL with a left thumb sprain shortly after his last appearance. Things looked like they were going Luis' way when he began catching pitches a couple of days ago, according to Acee, but he will now be out close to two months.

He will likely be held out until after the All-Star break, coming as a big blow to the Padres' depth at that position.

The 24-year-old catcher was slashing .238/.227/.429 with a.656 OPS, one home run, and two RBIs in seven games and 21 ABs. Campusano is as good as it gets for the Friars in the catcher's position. We wish Luis the best and a speedy recovery.
