Any hope for a potential Padres trade for Shohei Ohtani keeps getting dashed as insiders, experts, pundits, and even the odds are against the two-way unicorn coming to Petco Park via trade this summer.

Over on Bookies.com, the latest odds don't even have the Friars on the board for a possible trade for the Angels superstar. Even worse, the LA Dodgers sit atop the board at +350.

On Monday night, the Ohtani legend grew even bigger as he absolutely tanked a 1-2 fastball to center field for a homer in his third consecutive game. It tied the Angels up with the Yankees 3-3 for the eventual walk off win, a type of moment or spark that has seemingly eluded the Friars at times this season.

As fun as "Shotime" would be for San Diego, AJ Preller and the front office have signaled an almost conservative approach to the deadline. Yes, the Padres will be buyers, but the front office seems more inclined to wait and see if the superstars already in the clubhouse can pull together and figure it out over the next two-plus months.

By all accounts, the talent is all there. But a little (or lot) more talent in the form of arguably the best baseball player on the planet definitely wouldn't hurt.
