Padres Injury News: Fernando Tatis Jr Comes Out of Loss with Soreness
Last September, Fernando Tatis Jr. underwent labrum surgery on his left shoulder. Following Sunday’s loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Tatis was spotted with an ice pack on that surgically repaired shoulder.
Thankfully, it doesn't look to be too serious
“Just overall soreness,” Tatis said. “A lot of baseball [this season]. … I’m all good.”
The Padres moved Tatis from shortstop to right field in part to protect that valuable shoulder. When he dives for a ball, it puts unnecessary stress on the joint.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Tatis has been dealing with the soreness for the last two weeks. He says he isn’t too worried about it. “I’ve been putting a lot of work in, working out a lot,” Tatis added. “Just a little bit sore overall.”
The timeline explains some things amid a recent slump. Before rebounding in the series against the D-Backs, Fernando had just 7 hits in his previous 67 at-bats (.105 avg). Still, he remains one of the Padres’ best hitters with a .260 batting average, 19 home runs, 62 RBI, and a .784 OPS.
The Padres and Tatis hope his shoulder soreness doesn’t keep him down for long.
After a painful loss on Sunday, the Friars return home to San Deigo for an important 10 game homestand that can make or break the season.
