Padres Interested in All-Star Free Agent Starting Pitcher: Report
The San Diego Padres need a starting pitcher. San Diego has yet to sign a pitcher of high caliber, and it's no secret that's an area of need for the Friars.
However, that could all change soon as they've expressed interest in 2023 All-Star pitcher Michael Lorenzen.
MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported on the news.
Lorenzen was named an All-Star in 2023 for the first time in his career as a member of the Detroit Tigers.
He was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies on Aug. 1 and was integral to the team's trip to the National League Championship Series. In his first start as a Phillie, Lorenzen recorded the 14th no-hitter in the franchise's history and the first since 2015.
However, after his historic performance, he struggled a bit, posting a 5.51 ERA in 11 games.
Overall, he recorded a 9-9 record, a 4.18 ERA, 111 strikeouts, and a 1.21 WHIP in 153 innings and 29 games. Lorenzen is 32 years old and could be a key rotation piece for the Padres if they continue pursuing him.
The Padres need another arm; we'll see if it'll be Lorenzen.
