Padres Making Bid to Host 2026 WBC at Petco Park
This past Spring the World Baseball Classic took sports by storm and was a major success. It was entertaining baseball all around, and the teams involved all put on a show for the fans.
Team Japan took down the United States in the championship game, which ended up being one of the most classic games in history. The event brought in millions of viewers and was used to help grow the game of baseball across the globe.
We will see another World Baseball Classic in 2026, and teams have already started making their case to be one of the hosting venues.
This includes your San Diego Padres, as Padres insider Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune is reporting that the team is trying to make their pitch to have Petco Park host the World Baseball Classic in 2026.
It would be incredible to have Petco Park be one of the few venues used in the event. It was used back in 2017 and was a great time for everyone in the San Diego area.
The event typically has multiple venues around the globe, but the championship game is normally played somewhere within the United States. It remains to be seen if the bid from the Padres would land them the title game, but any games they’d get would be cool.
Petco Park is one of the nicest parks in the United States and deserves to be seen on a more global stage. Hopefully, this bid comes to fruition, and Petco can be included in the next round of this incredible baseball tournament.
