Before she announced her new job as the San Diego Padres' sideline reporter, Mariluz Cook became a familiar face to sports fans in the Salt Lake City market.

According to her professional website, her broadcasting experience includes work with the NBA's Utah Jazz, the Pacific Coast League's Salt Lake Grizzlies and the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies.

In 2024, Cook might add another interesting line-item to her resume: Miss USA.

Cook was crowned the winner of the Miss Utah USA pageant last October. That will make her eligible to compete in the annual Miss USA pageant, July 27-Aug. 4, 2024 at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles.

Coincidentally, Utah's Noelia Voigt is the reigning Miss USA.

In addition to her experience as a sideline reporter, Cook also has experience in the studio with Salt Lake City's KSL-5 TV.

According to her website, Cook produced FCS ALL-IN, dedicated to Division I Football Championship Subdivision Coverage which aired on ESPN+ weekly. She also formerly served as the first Director of Broadcast and Digital Media for the Big Sky Conference, working as an on-camera host, reporter, and producer.

The Padres announced their entire television broadcast lineup on Wednesday. In addition to Cook, play-by-play broadcaster Don Orsillo returns to the booth beginning in spring training on Padres.TV, with Mark Grant in the analyst seat. Bob Scanlan will once again provide analysis and reports as part of the broadcast team.

The team released some additional details about its spring training broadcasts Wednesday, and has said it will announce details about its regular season schedule outside of its local streaming package prior to its home opener on March 28.
