In this story:

The beauty of Spring Training in baseball is that it allows franchises to bring up their prospects from the minor leagues and allow them to get a feel of what the big league is like. They get the opportunity to play with and against some of the best talent in the MLB and they carry it back with them if they get reassigned to their original teams.

This is no different for the San Diego Padres and fans have gotten the pleasure of watching some of their future Friars suit up in the brown and gold in Peoria this year. We've gotten some truly special moments such as Ethan Salas hitting the field despite only being 16-years-old. With the front office bringing in so much star power recently, it's amazing to know they are prioritizing developing their prospects as well.

However, there is only so many spots that can be filled once the regular season comes around and San Diego has had no choice but to send some of their players back to the AA and AAA.

reassigned the following players to minor league camp today: C’s Juan Fernandez & Chandler Seagle, INF’s Jackson Merrill & Max Schrock, and OF Preston Tucker. There are 56 players remaining in Major League Camp (18 NRI)."

This number will definitely grow as Spring Training winds down but team manager Bob Melvin has revealed that there are multiple players still in the mix for a roster spot. Key members of the Padres have been re-joining the team in the Cactus League so that should give him a better idea soon.

With injuries plaguing the squad at certain times during this spring, it gives minor leaguers more of an opportunity than ever to snag a role !
