Just when things were starting to look up for the Padres as they had multiple stars returning to their squad along with positive updates on those recovering, down goes Austin Nola.

At the top of the fourth inning on Sunday against the Chicago Cubs, Nola stepped up to the plate and got hit directly in the face with a wild fastball from Michael Fulmer.

Sammy Levitt of '97.3 The Fan' was the first to report the unfortunate news.

"A scary scene here in Mesa, as Austin Nola is hit with a pitch by his helmet/face. Nola walked to a cart under his own power, holding a towel to his face."

"He’s exited the game."

(Per Sammy Levitt)

This play is especially dangerous considering that it doesn't look like Nola is wearing a mouth guard. He has been with the Friars since 2020 and has solidified himself as their main catcher.

We will update you as we know more about the injury.
