Blake Snell has been one of the saving graces for the San Diego Padres this season. His performance has helped keep them afloat during this frustrating year, and he is in contention for the National League Cy Young award.

He has been special all season long, holding an ERA of 2.73 and a WHIP of 1.27. Snell hasn’t allowed more than three runs in a start since May. It has been incredibly impressive how consistent he has been this season.

After long last, he has been listed as the top pitcher in the MLB.com pitcher power rankings. Surprisingly, it has taken this long for him to top the list this year. He moved up from the second spot to claim the top seat.

"Snell takes our top spot for the first time, becoming the fifth different pitcher to lead the way in our first 10 polls of 2023. That’s an especially impressive feat considering the left-hander didn’t even crack our first six editions. But he has come on strong and now leads the Majors with a 2.73 ERA, even as the underperforming Padres continue to scuffle as a team"

Per MLB.com

Snell will be a free agent this offseason and is due to get a massive payday. It remains to be seen if that will come from the Padres or a different team, but he is just trying to do his part to help San Diego win games for now.

The Friars are going to need Snell to continue this level of production if they are going to get to the postseason. He will need to give them all he has each time out, and maybe they can get the job done.

Snell has proved his worth this season, so it could be smart for San Diego to re-sign him. I'm not sure where they would be without his production this year, and that speaks for itself.
