There was not a whole lot of good that came out of this past weekend's Padres vs Yankees series that saw San Diego take home the first one only to drop the next two. Saturday was defined by some bad decision-making late in the game and Sunday's third inning made it hard for the Friars to full make a comeback.

Ha-Seong Kim also had to exit Saturday's game early while Juan Soto was pulled out of Sunday's lineup right before the first pitch because of apparent back tightness. The Padres remain without superstar Manny Machado as he remains recovering from his hairline fracture and the struggles of Yu Darvish at the mound were real.

Nonetheless, team manager Bob Melvin is trying his best to focus on all of the good he saw from his squad. They could have gave up on Sunday and allowed New York to walk away with an 8-3 win after the third inning. But San Diego fought back and ended at 10-7, and Fernando Tatis Jr had a nice weekend as well.

"We should feel at any point in time that we can come back," said Melvin. "Whether we're down five or six runs early in the game, that's the way we're set up. So it was nice to be able to come back and make it a game, we just gave up a couple of runs in the eighth that made it a little more difficult."

A common theme for the Friars this season has been making life more difficult than necessary, especially when facing a talented squad like the Yankees. Adjustments will have to be made moving forward and we hope San Diego makes the most of their off day and re-groups ahead of their next series against the Miami Marlins.
