Padres News: Bob Melvin Has Every Intention of Managing in San Diego Next Season
Coming into the 2023 season, the Padres were seen as the best team in the NL West, and many believed that they might make it all the way to the World Series.
They lured one of the biggest names on the free agency market to come to San Diego, and they spent so much money to make their infield one of the best, on paper, in the game.
But to say they've underperformed this season would be an understatement. They currently sit in fourth place in the NL West, and are an astounding 19 games back from the Dodgers, who sit atop the division.
When all is said and done, fans will not be happy with this team, and they should have every right to call for somebody to be fired. Most of the time, that's the manager of the team.
But, much like the Wolf of Wall Street, Padres manager Bob Melvin says he's in it for the long haul, and he's not leaving!
And by long haul, I mean until his contract is up, and then we'll see.
"Well, I have one more year on my contract. And I'm going to finish out what I started, unless something else is telling me not to, that's just where I am. But I'm not even focused on that at all."

The task at hand is to at least get to the playoffs for the Padres. But they've got to start winning games, and they had to have started like, yesterday. They're 7 games out of a wild card spot, and the teams above them haven't slowed down one bit.
It's really this simple, I'd think. The Padres make the playoffs, Bob Melvin gets to keep his job. The Padres don't make the playoffs, A.J. Preller moves off of Melvin tries to find someone else.
If Melvin is sent packing after this season, who would you like to see at the helm of the Friars in 2024?
Or do you think Melvin will just manage out the rest of his contract?
