Padres News: Bob Melvin Reacts to Blake Snell's Latest Dominant Start
Even as the San Diego Padres season hasn’t gone to plan, there has still been some bright spots. One main being how pitcher Blake Snell has performed this season and especially of late. Snell continued his hot streak of games on Saturday as he helped the Friars get a much needed win over the New York Mets to tie the series.
Over his last nine starts, Snell has put up an ERA of just 0.68 and has struck out 84 batters. Against New York, he struck out seven of the first eight Mets he saw and ended the game with 11 total punch-outs over six innings. It was quite the show to watch for the Padres faithful at Petco Park and is just another reminder of how good this team can be when it all clicks.
Manager Bob Melvin gave his thoughts on the performance and just how dominant his pitcher has been of late.
“You feel like every time he takes the mound and he goes out there with stuff like that — it’s dominant stuff — you don’t want to think that way but you know you’re not gonna have to score too many runs when he’s pitching like that,” Melvin said. “Just as long as you can finish the game out.”

For the season, Snell owns an ERA of 2.85 and has struck out 132 batters over 98 innings. He has been spectacular for the Padres but somehow was left off the National League All-Star roster. Snell is easily one of the biggest snubs across baseball and it's a travesty that he wasn't included to participate in the festivities up in Seattle.
Snell is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season and he is just helping his case here. It remains to be seen what the team will do with him at the trade deadline or if his future is to stay with the Padres but for now, they can bank on him giving them a strong start each time out.
