Padres News: Bob Melvin Sounds Lost for Things to Say Through Impossible Season
Things just seem to be coming to a head for the San Diego Padres this season. They have underwhelmed all year, and with only a month left in the season, things aren’t looking great.
The team still has games left to try and figure things out, but it has been the same old story all year. One minute they look like the heavyweight team that many were expecting this season, and then the next, they fall back into old habits.
It’s been incredibly frustrating for everyone involved, and even manager Bob Melvin seems to be at a loss for words at this point.
“It’s just keep playing,” Melvin said. “Keep playing and hope that something breaks that we haven’t been able to do basically the entire season.”

San Diego isn’t mathematically eliminated yet, so there is a chance. But it’s going to take a special turn of events to get back into contention.
The Friars would need to put together a few solid weeks of baseball and hope that the multiple teams ahead of them help them out. You can never say never in sports, but it seems like a long shot at this point.
It got bad again over the weekend as the Padres were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers. They needed to start picking up wins and instead, fell even farther back in the playoff race.
“Sunday’s 10-6 loss to the Brewers, while arguably on the pitchers who couldn’t consistently throw strikes or keep balls from being hit hard, was also what manager Bob Melvin called a “microcosm” of the season.”
Per Kevin Acee of The SD Union-Tribune
If the Padres can’t turn it around and get into the postseason, the roster could look much different next season. Major changes normally are made when a team underperforms like this, and that likely starts with the manager.
