Padres News: Bob Melvin Still Awaiting Final Verdict on Ha-Seong Kim Following Scan
Ha-Seong Kim has been the heart and soul of the 2023 Padres team, literally.
Kim won the Padres' 2023 Heart and Hustle award in early August. The 27-year-old second basemen has hit 17 home runs, is batting .265 and has 36 stolen bases this season.
On Sunday, Kim was ruled out before the Padres' game against the Oakland Athletics, which they won 10-1 to secure their first four-game win streak of the season.
Kim's condition is unknown, but is has to do with his abdomen.
"He had a scan, and they don't see anything in there — appendicitis or those type of things," manager Bob Melvin said after the game. "So I think that's a good thing. They're not 100 percent sure what it is right now. But I think the tougher stuff is probably ruled out. Maybe it's something he ate. We're not sure yet."

Kim also had a blood test, and Melvin hopes that more will be known on Monday.
Kim is in the third of a four-year contract worth $28 million. The value that he brings the Padres makes that a steal as far as the front office is concerned, and a much larger contract could be awaiting the Friars' star when he reaches free agency.
