It's safe to say that the San Diego Padres have not been in the best spirits as of late. They lost a home series over the weekend to one of the worst teams in the National League in the Washington Nationals and have since followed up with another loss in their first game against the Pittsburgh Pirate.

The offense has continued to be stagnant, the pitching needs work and the entire aura of the clubhouse has just been off. It's been clear that they've struggled to find a rhythm in this first half of the season but one thing that hadn't changed was that their stars always backed each other up.

However, things have taken a turn as of late. Manny Machado skipped out on his postgame interviews after their Tuesday off, Jake Cronenworth revealed that he doesn't think he's played up to his huge contract just yet and the fanbase is growing quite impatient. Loud boos have been taking over their home games and Twitter is a battlefield after each loss.

And as the Friars were trying to get back on track on Wednesday, Nick Martinez hit Jared Triolo as he tried to bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning. Multiple Padres players immediately reacted to the play as they believe the umpire saw it wrong but it was reviewed and confirmed to indeed be a body hit.

However, team manager Bob Melvin was not sold as he went onto the field to have a word with the umpire and tensions brewed. He eventually got thrown out and the Pirates then extend their lead from 2-1 to 7-1.

Melvin has stood up for his guys all year long but this reaction is definitely a result of their struggles over the past few weeks rather than just anger from the play.
