Padres News: Did Blake Snell Just Lose a Potential Suitor?
As we approach the month of March, the biggest pitcher prize out on the open market remains unsigned.
Things have gone a bit slow for Blake Snell when it comes to garnering the contract he's looking for.
Optimism in San Diego exists despite the fact the Padres don't look like a serious suitor to re-sign Snell at this point. A bunch of other teams have been rumored for the talented lefty. One of those squads has been the San Francisco Giants.
According to reporter Alex Pavlovic, it doesn't appear as if the Giants are looking to add another player to their roster. Now, this could be a bit of a hardball tactic as a means to get Snell or another player to accept an offer.
The Giants are a proud franchise and one with a history of winning. With the rival Dodgers dominating the headlines, San Francisco would love to add an impact player to further itself a chance to be competitive in the NL West.
As currently constituted, the Giants will enter the season with a projected starting five-man rotation of Logan Webb, Kyle Harrison, Jordan Hicks, Keaton Winn, and Tristan Beck. Outside of Webb, there are some serious questions marks about this group.
A surprise team could always emerge for Snell down the stretch. If San Francisco is indeed out of the running (which would be mildly shocking), Snell always could pivot towards the New York Yankees or his hometown Seattle Mariners.
While reportedly wanting a gigantic deal, it will be fascinating to see if Snell instead opts for a shorter deal with a higher AAV.
