The San Diego Padres should keep starting pitcher Blake Snell around past this season if only to face off against their rival, the Los Angeles Dodgers. Snell will be a free agent this winter, but there has been talk that he may not return to the Friars.

He is currently the frontrunner for the NL Cy Young Award, and his performance against LA on Wednesday night may have been the crowning moment. Snell went six scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out eight batters.

It was one of those performances that people look back on and remember that it helped clinch an award. But this is what he has always done against the Dodgers. After the game, he was praised for his performance by members of Los Angeles.

“He’s always had success against us,” said the Dodgers’ Chris Taylor, who went 0 for 2 against Snell and 0 for 4 in the game with two strikeouts. “I thought tonight was the best he’s looked since we’ve faced him.”

Per The OC Register

It’s like Snell goes into a different gear when he sees that Los Angeles jersey across from him on the mound. But hey, the Padres will gladly take it.

“He’s trying to make his push for the Cy Young, and understandably so,” said L.A. manager Dave Roberts. “He’s having that type of season. A guy like that, with the stuff that he has, when he’s on, there’s just not many lineups that can do anything with him.”

Per MLB.com

Getting praised by multiple members of an opponent means that you really did a number on them in a game. LA was shut down for the entire night, and they had no answer for Snell on Wednesday.

Taylor continued his thoughts on what Snell did against them.

“I mean, recently, at least this year, I thought that was the best he’s looked as far as throwing four pitches, locating. He was tough tonight.”

Per The OC Register

In what will likely be his final start against LA as a member of the Padres, Snell showed out. The Cy Young Award is all but his at this time, and it was a great night overall for San Diego.
