Padres News: Ethan Salas Called Up to High-A, Continuing to Make History in MLB Journey
As the months go on, expect to hear more and more about one of the Padres' most talented prospects, Ethan Salas. On Tuesday, the 17-year-old catcher was promoted to High-A Fort Wayne, yet another step in his incredible journey to the MLB.
Salas kicked off his Singe-A career earlier this season with Lake Elsinore and quickly impressed, hitting .267 with nine home runs, 35 runs batted in and an OPS of .837.
That play earned him a quick promotion to High-A, where it remains to be seen how long he remains before heading to Double-A.
Salas shocked the majority of the MLB world when he actually suited up with other big league players and top prospects in Peoria with the Friars during Spring Training, and they came to find out that he was just 16 years old at the time. Coming into the franchise as one of the best players from Venezuela, Salas is already rising the ranks of the minor leagues.
After he appeared in Single-A, he made history, as only three other 17-year-olds have played in the California League over the past five minor league seasons. When he made his debut a few months ago, he was still just 16 years old.
Now, Salas is already at High-A, and he seems to be on an incredible trajectory to the MLB level.
MLB Pipeline doesn't expect him to debut in the MLB until 2028, but with the track he's on right now, he could be there much sooner than that.
