Ahead of their series finale against the St. Louis Cardinals as they hope to salvage a series win, the Padres got some more bad news.

The team placed RHP Steven Wilson on the 15-day injured list with left hip inflammation, retroactive to August 28. They recalled LHP Ray Kerr from Triple-A El Paso to replace him on the active roster.

Wilson has been one of the Padres more reliable relievers all year long. In 52 appearances, Wilson has a solid 3.91 ERA, and has struck out 57 batters in 53 innings.

He also threw 53 innings for San Diego last year, and had an even better 3.06 ERA.

Wilson is now heading to the injured list, where he'll spend the next couple of weeks. He will be eligible to return in the middle of September, but it remains to be seen where the Padres are in the standings at that point and if they'll need him to come back at all.

As for Kerr, he's made 13 appearances at the big-league level this year, sporting a rough 6.28 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. He'll hope to have some better success this time around, as he replaces one of the most solid arms in the Padres bullpen.
