The Padres are set to take on the Chicago Cubs for a second of a three-game series, but before the game, the Friars made a shocking move.

LHP Ryan Weathers has been optioned to the Padres triple-A affiliate, and recalled LHP Tom Cosgrove.

Weathers has been efficient in five games, as he has not allowed a hit in his last two appearances. Overall, he is 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA, 11 strikeouts and. a 1.11 WHIP in 18 innings.

Weathers replacement Tom Cosgrove has been impressive in triple-A. In seven games, he has a 0.00 ERA with seven strikeouts and a 0.55 WHIP in 7.1 innings pitched.

The move comes as a shock as Weathers was finding his groove and will now be sent to El Paso. We're not sure why he was sent down, but we wish him the best and hope he returns back to the big leagues soon.
