Padres News: Friars Number One Prospect Will Participate in Futures Game
The future of the Padres will be shown off at the All-Star Futures Game in Seattle next month.
Top prospect Jackson Merrill has gotten the nod to represent the Friars in MLB's showcase of its best young players. The game will take place during All-Star week on July 8.
Merrill is the 12th ranked prospect in all of baseball. The 20-year was the Padres first round pick in the 2021 draft out of high school.
In High-A Fort Wayne, Merrill is hitting .266 with seven home runs, 29 RBIs and an OPS of .714. Merrill has also shown off his speed by swiping nine bags this season.
This isn't the first time that Merrill has selected to play in a prospect showcase. Last year he was named to the Arizona Fall League's Rising Star game.
When he steps on the field for the Futures Game, Merrill will follow a long line of Padres prospects to play in the game including, Fernando Tatis Jr. and CJ Abrams.
