Padres News: Friars Plan To Use Off-Day Adventures as Struggle Resolvers
The Friars have had an unexpected start to the season. They sit four games below .500 as of Thursday and had a well-needed rest day, too.
It hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows for the Padres, as they have struggled to find their groove. The Padres came into this season with high expectations and have failed to meet them as of late. It's not time to panic just yet, but it isn't looking good for them right now.
When you're in a rut, sometimes it takes multiple reps to get you out of it, and sometimes you need to get away from the game to find yourself, and the Padres plan to do just that in their day offs. Padres insider Kein Acee spoke with All-Star pitcher Joe Musgrove, and he said the team plans to get away from the game and spend time with teammates off the field.
“We were talking about just getting out of here a little bit, getting together as a group outside of the field,” Joe Musgrove said. “You want to have fun as a group, and we haven’t had a whole lot of fun. So you get outside of here, let baseball be a secondary thought for a little bit and just have some fun together as a group and get to know each other on a little bit of a deeper level.
The Padres are a group filled with veterans all across the board who know the ups and downs of a long season. Too much baseball can be bad for a team struggling into the season; this could be precisely what the Friars need.
Off-the-field bonding is just as necessary as in field chemistry. The Friars are taking the off-the-field approach, and we'll see if that translates into wins.
