In this story:

Padres first baseman Garrett Cooper was removed from the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday after getting hit by a pitch right on the elbow.

Cooper initially wasn't in the lineup as he's banged up with a jammed wrist, but entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 7th inning.

He came up in the 9th inning with a runner on first base and nobody out, and took a fastball right to the elbow.

Cooper was removed from the game for Jose Azocar, who pinch ran for him.

That may have been the plan all along to get speed on first base as the tying run, but the Cooper elbow injury will now be something to monitor moving forward.

We'll continue to update on Cooper's status, but it seems unlikely he's in there for the second game of the doubleheader between the wrist and elbow.
