Padres News: Gary Sanchez Fractures Wrist in Wednesday's Loss

Yet another tough injury blow for San Diego.

Padres catcher Gary Sanchez fractured his wrist on Wednesday in the Friars' 5-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, likely ending his season. Padres manager Bob Melvin made the announcement following Wednesday's game and said he was "sick to my stomach" for the team's catcher.

The Padres acquired Sanchez at the end of May after he's bounced around the league since leaving the New York Yankees in 2021.

Sanchez struggled with the New York Mets to start this season, but clearly found a home in San Diego.

Sanchez was able to revitalize his career and has been one of the few bright spots in San Diego this season, hitting 19 home runs with 47 runs batted in and an OPS of .780 in 72 games with the Friars.

The tandem of Sanchez and Luis Campusano has been a dominant catching duo, but unfortunately, Sanchez's season has likely come to an end.

It will be up to Campusano (who just suffered an injury scare of his own) to carry the load at catcher, while Sanchez will now have to look ahead to this offseason, where he's set to hit free agency.

He recently made it clear he wants to return to San Diego this season, but it'll depend on what type of contract he wants come the winter. This injury won't have an impact on his value, but it unfortunately ends his season a month earlier than expected.

We wish the best to Sanchez on this unfortunate injury.
