The San Diego Padres got a much-needed win on Tuesday, beating the Baltimore Orioles in dominating 10-3 fashion.

The Padres were in control all game long, getting out to an immediate 5-0 lead thanks to a first inning capped off with a Gary Sanchez grand slam, San Diego's first of the 2023 season.

While a win of that nature that does feel like something that could spark the team, they know not to get too caught up in just one victory. All year long, the Padres have seemed to struggle the day after big wins, and the players have taken notice.

"It’s no secret it has happened," Sanchez said in regards to the struggles the day after a big win. "It has been a common thing for us. But we have to leave it in the past. We can’t think about that — something that already happened. Like today we had the perspective to come in, have fun, enjoy ourselves. And that’s pretty much the mindset we need to have for tomorrow. Just come in and have fun and make sure we have the same quality at-bats."

It's good that the Padres are at least aware of this issue, and can understand the importance of not getting too caught up in one win when they remain 5.5 games out of a playoff spot. But more importantly, Sanchez understands what the Padres should be focusing on.

"Most important for us is just trying to win the series," Sanchez said. "Personally, my mindset’s not really thinking about the playoffs or things like that. It’s just, 'What can we bring in day by day?' … Today worked out; same mindset for tomorrow."

First pitch for the rubber match against the Orioles is at 5:40 p.m. PT on Wednesday.
