At this point in their season, the main issues revolving around the San Diego Padres extend far beyond their bullpen. It was a popular excuse the first weeks of the year to put the blame of some of the weaker relievers as to why the Friars were blowing leads and games.

However, Bob Melvin has said, A.J. Preller has hinted at it... the stars just simply need to put forth some offensive production that showcases the massive contracts they're currently under. San Diego invested hundreds of millions of dollars into their batters so they could be wielding run after run and that has yet to happen.

Nonetheless, improving their bullpen will be next on the list once the offensive woes are put to the side. The Friars have gone through numerous roster changes and moved around the likes of Ryan Weathers and Nabill Crismatt just to name a few.

But it's now looking like we could be welcoming back one of the clubhouse's top relievers much sooner than we previously thought.

Robert Suarez has had one of the more confusing and frustrating injury battles this season and we still haven't received many details as to what exactly he is going through. Right before the 2023 season kicked off, he was placed on the 15-day IL with some mysterious elbow pain.

Since then, he underwent numerous X-rays and MRI's only to discover there was no structural damage and then got placed on the 60-day IL. We finally received some good news recently from team manager Bob Melvin regarding his rehab.

“He starts throwing baseballs Monday," said Melvin. "That’s a good thing. He’ll toss from 90-feet to begin with. Him having a baseball in his hands is good news for everyone here.”(Via 97.3 The Fan)

Suarez had a great year in San Diego last season as he posted a 2.27 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. We hope to see him back very soon!
