Padres News: Injury Updates On Juan Soto, Adam Engel, Drew Pomeranz
As Spring Training continues and the season opener grows closer, San Diego's medical staff has been hard at work ensuring the squad is ready.
Sammy Levitt of '97.3 The Fan' provided the latest updates on Juan Soto, Adam Engel, and Drew Pomeranz, who are each recovering from injuries.
Juan Soto will finally be joining the Dominican Republic before their WBC matches against Venezuela on Saturday and Nicaragua on Monday. He was suffering from left calf tightness that made him miss their first few exhibition games but stayed with San Diego to rehab and now is ready to go.
Adam Engel also suffered a strain to his right calf and team manager Bob Melvin originally noted that the injury would take some time to heal. However, Engel appears to be healthy now and will play Saturday against the White Sox.
Drew Pomeranz had to undergo flexor tendon surgery in 2021 and has experienced setback after setback since then. It has been reported he's tired of rehabbing and we finally got good news, seeing him throw against hitters in live batting practice.
All signs point to Soto and Engel being healthy come Opening Day as they get ready to suit up these next few days. The same probably won't happen just yet for Pomeranz, but this news is a step in the right direction for the 34-year-old. We hope all of these guys return to the lineup soon.
