Padres News: Jake Cronenworth Did Something No One Has Ever Done Before Against Shohei Ohtani
Even the great players have off days but it’s when opposing teams take advantage that makes headlines. The San Diego Padres did just that in their win on Tuesday against Shohei Ohtani and the Angels. The Padres jumped out to a 5-1 lead over the Halos before Ohtani was removed due to a blister issue on his finger. The Friars ended up winning the game by a score of 8-5.
But while he was on the mound, the Friars knocked around the two-way superstar a bit. They even made some history. Second baseman Jake Cronenworth become the first player to get three extra-base hits off Ohtani in the same game. It’s pretty crazy that Ohtani hadn’t allowed a player to do that after being in the league since 2017 but it finally happened.
Cronenworth went 3-4 in the game with three runs batted in. He spoke after about the chance to face off against one of the best in the business.
“Arguably the best player ever,” Jake Cronenworth said. “You get an opportunity to face a guy like that, it’s always a fun competition.”

It’s not everyday that you get to face off against a player like Ohtani so it’s a special moment. And for Cronenworth to have the kind of success that he did makes it even better!
“He’s one of the best hitters in baseball, and he’s one of the best pitchers,” Cronenworth said. “Nobody else can say that. The last guy that was able to do it was Babe Ruth, and he stopped pitching.”

The Padres will be looking for the sweep against the Angels and will try to keep their momentum going in the upward direction.
