Padres News: Jake Cronenworth Heading to IL With Fractured Wrist
More bad news in a season of struggle for the Padres. The club learned on Saturday that infielder Jake Cronenworth sustained a fractured wrist on Friday night after taking a 93mph fastball off his right hand in the 9th inning.
He went for x-rays immediately after that revealed the unfortunate update. Although, he told reporters on Saturday afternoon that he already "felt like it was broke."
The 2021 NL All-Star said he hopes to make it back in time for the playoffs, if the team can surge up in the Wild Card rankings.
It's been a mostly down year for Cronenworth who's hitting just .229 but with 41 extra base hits while primarily playing first base this season. While he's out, the club will mostly lean on trade deadline acquisitions Garrett Cooper and Ji-Man Choi, when healthy at 1B and will call up infielder Matthew Batten to take Croneneworth's spot on the active roster.
