Padres News: Joe Musgrove Got Outplayed in Tuesday's Loss & Isn't Worried
The San Diego Padres definitely did not get off to the most ideal start in their new series this week against the Seattle Mariners. After finding new life in their final match against the Chicago Cubs with Manny Machado and Gary Sanchez carrying the offense, fans were pondering if maybe that could be the win that turned their season around for the better.
However, everything went back to ground zero once they suited up at home against the Mariners and it's tough to watch. Garnering just one run and allowing Seattle to manhandle them had the clubhouse disappointed once again and wondering what they need to do better moving forward.
Team manager Bob Melvin continuously details to the media how they are trying to push through these struggles and simply hopes the squad can find a consistent rhythm in this third month of the 2023 season.
“That’s what I would say is frustrating, as a team,” said Padres manager Bob Melvin. “Is that we play a good game, and then we don’t follow it up. We’ve talked often about: We’ve got to put together several good games in a row to get on a run and feel a little bit better about ourselves. We haven’t been able to play two in a row, really.”

San Diego finds themselves in dangerous territory despite making multiple roster changes as of late.Â
They will ultimately have to decide if they want to make legit changes and part ways with some of their bigger names to round out their lineup. One of the more interesting areas of their clubhouse is the pitching staff.
Joe Musgrove has had an up-and-down season ever since returning from his foot injury and admitted that he got outplayed in their 4-1 loss.
“Pitch count, really it was just Crawford,” Musgrove said. “He took up a quarter of my pitches, I think. ... He was tough. I was throwing everything I had at him. He was fouling pitches off, really good pitches, taking the good pitches just out of the zone. He just gave me a lot of trouble tonight.”(Via MLB.com)
We'll see have to see how the rest of these weeks progress for the Friars!
