Padres News: Joe Musgrove Returns, Throws 6 Strikeouts in 1st AAA Match
We're inching closer and closer to the return of Joe Musgrove, Padre fans. The right-handed all-star appeared on the hill Thursday night for the Padres triple-A affiliate El Paso Chihuahuas.
He matched up against the Sacramento River Cats and had a solid outing.
The Chiuahuhas lost 10-5, but all eyes were on Musgrove. This was the 30-year-olds first appearance in triple-A since 2018, when he was a part of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Musgrove suffered a toe fracture when he dropped a kettle ball in the weight room. He started the season on the 15-day injured list and could be back by the time the gold and brown face off against the New York Mets next week.
Musgrove has spent two seasons with the Padres and has been extraordinary for the club. He's won over 55% of his games with a 3.06 ERA and has recorded 287 strikeouts, more than any team he's been a part of. He made his first All-Star appearance last season and had his best individual season.
The righty would be a massive plus for the Padres as Blake Snell continues his early-season struggles and the uncertainty of Michael Wacha and Nick Martinez. Musgrove would top off a three-headed monster with Snell and Yu Darvish and could be the league's deadliest trio as the season progresses.
