Padres News: Josh Hader Hopes to Avoid Being Traded This Deadline
If bankrolls were a measurement of talent, the Padres would be one of the best teams in baseball this season. Unfortunately, despite fielding a talented roster of stars that looks like MLB The Show's Franchise feature set on easy mode, the Padres are fourth in a strong NL West division and six games back in the NL Wild Card race.
With the trade deadline approaching, many MLB analysts' eyes have been on two of San Diego's best pitchers: starter Blake Snell and closer Josh Hader. There have been mixed reports on what the Padres will do with the soon-to-be free agents considering the risk that the two walk away after the season, yielding no return for two of baseball's best at their position.
Snell has a 2.85 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. The former Tampa Bay Ray held a 0.87 ERA in June on his way to winning the NL Pitcher of the Month Award, and didn't allow a single run in two starts in July.
As for Hader he has 21 saves, sixth-best in the MLB, with a 1.08 ERA across 33.1 innings. The former Brewer is one of the best closers in the major leagues.
Hader, who received his fifth All-Star nod this season, spoke on the prospect of being traded and affirmed that he wanted to remain in San Diego.
"I hope I don't get traded. But it's out of my control, right?" Hader said. "The guys up top decide what to do. If that's me getting traded, that's me getting traded. But if not, I believe we have the team to do a lot of special things."

The "guys up top" seem to have the same commitment to winning in the playoffs as they did before the season's start. AJ Preller has said multiple times that he believes the Padres have the roster to justify buying at the deadline in hopes of a postseason push.
While the Padres could get quite a haul for Hader or Snell, the likelihood that a contending team would give up players that would help San Diego win this season more so than either of their top pitchers is low.
