It has been an incredibly frustrating season for the San Diego Padres. Things haven’t gone their way the entire year, and they are still searching for some sense of consistency.

San Diego has underwhelmed in a year that many saw to be their best chance to compete for a World Series title. The pressure of the expectations that were put on this franchise over the offseason has seen them crumble as the year has gone on.

But this team isn’t going to quit. It’s not what they are made of, and they will continue to fight until they don’t have any games left to do so. Closer Josh Hader spoke on the team's mindset amid all the struggles this year.

“You don’t stop fighting until the end of the year, whether it’s going our way or not,” Hader said. “None of these guys in here are quitters. So we’re going to keep fighting until the end and see where that brings us.”

On paper, the Padres have the look of a dominant team. They won the offseason after a strong postseason run, but it hasn’t translated to the new year.

Of course, there is still a month left to go in the season, but things aren’t looking great for them. They would need to put together a few solid weeks of baseball, while also having multiple other teams help them out.

This isn’t to say it can’t happen, but it’s looking bleak right now. The Padres dug this hole for themselves, and they are still searching for a way out.

Their wildly inconsistent offense, combined with a pitching staff that has been slowly cracking as the year has gone on has dropped them in the standings. The clock is ticking on their season, and unless they can turn it around, it will be one of the biggest letdowns in the history of baseball.
