The San Diego Padres came into the 2023 season being hyped up to potentially boast one of the greatest offense the MLB has ever seen. Even though Fernando Tatis Jr. cannot join the lineup until late April, Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado, and Juan Soto are still three of the league's brightest stars and have the tools to carry an offense.

Xander Bogaerts has certainly pulled his weight thus far as the Padres sit at 7-6 and he has easily been their best batter. He has 15 hits and four home runs while slashing .333/.426/.667 to start off his Padres campaign. It's been a warm welcome for him in San Diego but the other stars haven't shared quite the same.

Soto was acquired by the Friars in one of the biggest blockbuster trades ever last season and the expectations were that he could be one of the final pieces that would help the team win their first title ever. However, it hasn't hit been too hot of a start for him and when asked if he's struggling with his batting techniques by the MLB's AJ Cassavell, he did not respond too well.

"Everybody’s talking about what I’m doing wrong,” Soto said. “Nobody’s telling me what I’m doing to fix it. I can tell that they’ve been seeing it. I see it every day. I’m pulling myself this way. I’m trying to find a way how to fix it.”

The Padres do not have their full roster yet so we don't even know their full potential but there is a lot to be said about Soto's attitude here. He is doing his best to figure out what's going on and he's tired of the backlash.

It's also worth considering that he was slugging pretty well in Spring Training and during the WBC. Hopefully his numbers continue to pick up because he is a very important part of this squad.
