Padres News: Juan Soto More Than Pleased With His WBC Experience
The World Baseball Classic is winding down, which means a handful of teams have been eliminated from competition. One of those teams was the favorite to win the gold, Team Dominican Republic.
The DR team was filled with superstar talent and was eliminated from the WBC on Wednesday. The team could not make it out of the pool play, going 2-2 and being eliminated by Team Puerto Rico.
Team DR was loaded from top to bottom, led by Padres superstar slugger Juan Soto. This was the first time Soto represented his country on the biggest stage. Juan is now back with the Padres camp and caught up with 97.3 The Fan. He told reporters that even though they didn't win the gold, he said he was happy to be able to rock his nation's colors.
There's nothing better than playing the sport you love and representing your country on its biggest stage. The 24-year-old superstar did not disappoint; he slashed .400/.500/.1000 with a 1.500 OPS in 15 ABs. Soto also accounted for six hits, six runs, three doubles, two home runs, and three RBIs.
Team DR had the best odds to win the World Baseball Classic, so being unable to come out of pool play is disappointing. Soto is still young and will get the opportunity to win the gold for his country in the next WBC games. Nonetheless, having Soto and Manny Machado back with the team is excellent.
We're happy to have the two superstars back in gold and brown. They should be ready to go for Opening Day against the Colorado Rockies on March 30th.
