Padres News: Juan Soto Not Taking Games Off Until Batting Slumps End
Persistence is key. You don't have to tell Padres superstar Juan Soto that. Soto is currently on a slump since... well, since he became a Padre. His OPS has dipped, his slugging has dipped, his on-base percentage, and pretty much all his numbers across the board.
However, not even his manager Bob Melvin will stop him from figuring it out. Melvin told Padres radio host Sammy Levitt that he wants to swing his way out of his slump.
“Juan wants to swing his way out of this thing, and he feels like the best way to do that is playing these games.”
Soto has yet to play like the superstar San Diego traded for the last trade deadline. He's played all 27 games and has slashed .174/.339/.337 with a .676 OPS. Soto has a career .939 OPS and even garners the comparisons of a lefty Ted Williams. However, he hasn't displayed that in Southern California.
It's tough to see a talent like Juan struggle the way he is, but he seems not to let his slump faze him, and why should it? He's accomplished so much in his short career and has the abilities and talent to overcome it all.
The 24-year-old is a three-time silver slugger, two-time All-Star, and a batting champion. Keep swinging the Lousiville, Soto; you'll figure it out.
