Padres News: Manny Machado Has Nothing But Championship Aspirations For Talented Roster
Behind all of the money being spent, all of the big name players being linked to San Diego, and a roster that just looks beautiful on paper, anything less than a World Series this season would be labeled a failure for the Friars. The front office have been at work constantly reconstructing the team to make sure that they are ready for a deep postseason push.
Team manager Bob Melvin, owner Peter Seidler, and majority of the fanbase have all agreed that they see this Padres squad going to the promised land. On top of a blockbuster trade that brought in Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis Jr. is already looking healthy in Spring Training and Xander Bogaerts is getting comfortable within the system.
On top of everything, the Friars have a very happy leader in Manny Machado who just got taken care of by San Diego big time. In a one-on-one interview with Sammy Lev of "97.3 The Fan", the star third baseman shared title aspirations going far beyond this season when asked what he feels the Padres could accomplish together.
"Multiple championships, we have the team to do it," said Machado. "We have the dedication, the will, strength, and the heart to do it. That's our goal and that's what we're going to continue to do whether it's today, whether it's tomorrow, whether it's this year or next year."
All focus is definitely on baseball now that Machado's extension is completed and signed. Even though the slugger insisted that the development of his team was the only thing on his mind, fellow teammates were expressing Machado's importance to the squad in attempt to let the front office know to get his deal done. It looks like the chemistry between the Padres players ahead of this season is already special and they look to capitalize on their leader's claims.
