The Baltimore Orioles' rise this season has been one of the most exciting parts of the baseball season. Coming from where they were just a season or two ago, the Orioles have seen one of the fastest rebuilds in recent memory.

They currently sit atop the American League East division and look like the real deal. Baltimore should be a tough out for any team come playoff time, and the city couldn’t be more hyped up.

One person who has been appreciative of their dramatic rise is former Orioles star and current San Diego Padres third baseman, Manny Machado. He spoke about the organization before the two teams matched up for a series Monday.

“It’s definitely fast,” Machado said Monday afternoon. “I’ve never seen a team rebuild that quickly. … This year they’ve shown that they could take the East, so it’s impressive to see that in such a short period of time what they are doing over there.”

Per The SD Union-Tribune

Machado spent multiple years with the Orioles early in his career. He is very familiar with the team and the city. So he understands just how important they are in the area.

It’s probably cool for him to see Baltimore doing so well. After all, he was a big reason for much of their success during his time there.

“It takes me back to when I played there,” he said. “Winning baseball and obviously they brought back the culture. It’s been a big sports city for a long time, so to see them going (from) clean house and rebuild in a short period of time to where they are today, it’s pretty impressive.”

Per The SD Union-Tribune

It’s kind of ironic because Machado was dealt away in 2018. After all, the Orioles weren’t going anywhere, and it was the start of their rebuild. Now Baltimore has a much better record than Machado's team.

Sports are funny sometimes, but it’s these types of stories that make sports so special. Best of luck to the Orioles the rest of the way!
