Padres News: Manny Machado Reacts to Contract Extension

Manny Machado will be a Padre for life and he couldn't be happier.

On Sunday, the Padres and Manny Machado agreed to an 11 year monster contract extension to keep the star third baseman in San Diego for the rest of his career. The deal is reportedly worth $350 million and will take him through his age 41 season.

Ahead of the Friars spring training game against the Diamondbacks in Arizona, Manny addressed the media about the new deal.

“They believed in me from day one, and here we are. ... We’re excited to be here for the rest of our careers and have this hat going into the Hall of Fame.”

Since joining the Padres ahead of the 2019 season, Machado has solidified himself as one of the best players in the game. Over the last four seasons, Manny has hit 108 home runs while posting an .855 OPS over 519 games. He's matured as a hitter and as a leader in the clubhouse and now gets rewarded for his growth on and off the field.

Kudos to the San Diego Padres and to owner Peter Seidler for getting this deal done and committing to the city and the franchise in such a big way.
