The second half of the season is off to a rough start for the Padres as they have fallen to the Phillies in extra innings, again.

The 7-6 loss after 12 innings on Sunday gives the Padres their third loss in the last four games, raising some concern from within the organization.

One man in particular, Padres third-baseman Manny Machado, had plenty to say after the ugly finale.

“We kept fighting...And we couldn’t come up with that timely hit in extra innings. So some of that could’ve changed, instead of just scoring one and taking the lead. With the runner on second base in extra innings, especially on the road, you‘ve got to be aggressive. You’ve got to score more than one run. And we didn’t do that today.”

The game was fought back by Fernando Tatis Jr, who came on as pinch hitter and had a two-RBI single with two outs in the top of the eighth inning.

Unfortunately, Bryce Harper and the Phillies were able to fight back and eventually won off a sacrifice fly from Kyle Schwarber in the twelfth inning.

The Padres have had a rough start to the year, and their recent form can only describe the season as disappointing.

Sitting in 4th place in the NL West with a 44-50 record, Manny Machado and company need to figure something out if they want to try to make a run at a wild card berth.

And that alone will take a lot of work as they are currently eight games behind the Marlins for the final clinched spot.

San Diego look to redeem themselves in Toronto when they look to take on the Vladimir Guerrero and the Blue Jays.
