Padres News: Matt Carpenter Shuts Down Rumors of SD Having Comfortable Mindset
In order to really have a team in the MLB that is capable of contending for a World Series, the roster has to be well-rounded not just in terms of talent, but also in experience.
The Padres have been headlined all year by their star power with the likes of Manny Machado, Fernando Tatis Jr, and more suiting up for them. However, Matt Carpenter and Nelson Cruz bring forth that hard-nosed, veteran leadership that a team like the Friars could really use right now.
San Diego is about to take on a Boston Red Sox squad that is 24-20 but still somehow sitting in the last place of their division. They've discovered that in order to succeed in their division, they'll have to win a lot more games and it all starts this weekend against the Friars.
The Famous Post-Game Meeting
After their most recent loss to the Kansas City Royals that saw the Padres drop their third straight series, the clubhouse opted to hold a players-only meeting. Despite everybody wanting to keep the matters they discussed private, I think it's definitely fair to assume Carpenter was one of the lead speakers.
He is well-aware of the criticisms surrounding the franchise right now but he said he hopes that fans know that SD is doing everything they can to get over their slump.
“I think that you’ve just got to start seeing committed, better at-bats all the way up and down the lineup and a commitment to execute in situations when we get in a situation," said Carpenter.

Carpenter also did not like that people thought that they had a comfortable approach heading into their KC series.
I would be the first to get on our group if we weren’t working like we should or we weren’t taking this serious enough or we weren’t preparing like we should. It’s just not the case," said Carpenter. "But we’re not executing on it. That’s reality. And there’s an element to the game of baseball and in this job, and good teams, they execute. So we’ve got to find a way to do it.”

I'm expecting an angry series win against the Red Sox.
