It's been a weird year so far for the San Diego Padres. They started the season off slow then gained some ground back but have fallen back into old habits of late. They sit in fourth place in the NL West division after coming into the season with heavy expectations of possibly winning the World Series. It seems that the pressures may have gotten to them a little bit but there is still time to right the wrongs.

With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the Padres need to make some adjustments. They don't need a lot but something needs to change. They need some type of spark and it's not in their DNA to just give up on the year after going all in.

"One day after one MLB scout said Monday he sees the Padres as buyers ahead of the Aug. 1 trade deadline, here’s what another MLB scout said on Tuesday: “They are all in. Doesn’t make sense to fold. Plus, that’s not how A.J.’s wired.”

Per The San Diego Union-Tribune

San Diego made the decision to go all in last year around this time by trading for star outfielder Juan Soto. They then proceeded to get to the NLCS win the postseason and then have an impactful offseason. But it hasn't helped things for this season.

The Padres know that they can't just give up. And to be fair, they shouldn't.

This team is only a few games out of a playoff spot and one big winning streak and they are back in everything. They have the talent to win games but just need to execute better.

Maybe a trade to shore up some of the holes like the back end of the pitching rotation or another bench player will help move things along.

Whatever the Padres do at the trade deadline, they need to do something. This current ideation of the team isn't working and they don't want to miss out on the postseason. San Diego has their work cut out for them with all the talented teams across the National League but they have just the roster to make a run.
