It was just last night when the Denver Nuggets, led by NBA superstars Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, captured their first championship in franchise history in a 4-1 series victory over the Miami Heat. Sports fans had been in for quite the treat over the past couple of months as they got to experience the most competitive time of the basketball season along with the first few months of the MLB season.

We are all hoping that the Padres are able to continue turning their season around and complete the same feat that the Nuggets did but one thing that San Diego natives have lacked for a while is the ability to say that they have a hometown professional basketball team to root for. They haven't been able to do so since 1984 when the Clippers relocated to Los Angeles but that could all change very soon.

The owner of the Nuggets and Los Angeles Rams, Stan Kroenke, has decided to lead the way in investing towards the redevelopment of the 56-year-old San Diego Sports Arena and all of the land around it. His full vision extends far beyond just an arena as he hopes to fill out the surrounding land with restaurants, shopping centers, and other attractions.

The NBA has been teasing a potential expansion for the past couple of months and cities like Las Vegas and Seattle have been the hottest guessing options among fans. However, with San Diego putting together this new outline along with how the community came together when SDSU went on their elite March Madness run, maybe they could seriously get in the mix.

Lou Hirsh of CoStar News confirmed that those in charge are still deciding as to whether they'll remodel the complex or tear it down and start new but an NBA or even NHL team has been suggested.

"The city has not formally decided whether the sports arena, built in 1966 at

3500 Sports Arena Blvd.

, will be replaced or renovated, though the most recent renderings point to a new arena being developed... His company’s new involvement has spurred speculation in San Diego media that Midway Rising could eventually attract a major professional sports team, including potentially an NBA or NHL franchise."

This could be huge for the city of San Diego!
